Annual Gathering 2023

Dear friends, colleagues,

We welcome you at our 2023 Gathering which will take place in The Roos in Amsterdam. As you can see on their website The Roos is located in the centre of Amsterdam at the beautiful Vondelpark and with beautiful museums right on the spot.

The Gathering starts as usual on Thursday afternoon at 14.00 and finishes on Sunday around 12.30.
Of course we invite you to come forward with your wishes and ideas to present or share, but we are also working on inviting some interesting and inspiring people who will share about their initiatives or social activities.

On the evening of Thursday May 4th we invite you to join us in our national Remembrance ceremony. We are still exploring the best way to do this. More details will follow later as well as the full program, however you can find a preliminary schedule below.

We decided to organize the Gathering without hotel accommodation. Such combined venues would cost too much in The Netherlands. Therefore you need to arrange your own lodgement. Please take a look on Booking.com or Airbnb to find yourself an accommodation.

If you need any assistance regarding neighbourhood or public transport of your accommodation to the venue, do not hesitate to write to one of us.

Information on how to get to the venue from Amsterdam Airport or the Central station you will find below.

The fee for the Gathering will be 250€, if you register and pay before December, 31st, and 280€ if you register or pay later. This includes: the venue, lunches on Friday and Saturday and dinner on Thursday and Saturday.

We advise you to register soon because we can only host 30 people. You can register here.

We also advise you to book your accommodation as soon as possible. Prices are getting higher and higher these days.

We are really looking forward to meeting you all in our fantastic Amsterdam!

Practical information regarding transport from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to the Venue:

“De Roos” P.C. Hoofdstraat 183 1071 BW Amsterdam, is close to Museumplein, Leidseplein (plein = square) and it is at the Vondelpark. Real central in Amsterdam with a lot of cultural spots nearby: theatres, museums, music venues, cinema, market and for those who like: ‘the Heineken museum’. This all makes it a place easily to get by public transport. From central station, from east and west Amsterdam trams go to the ‘Leidseplein’, and from there a walk about 10 minutes. Some trams stop very close to the Roos, trams 3, also 1, 2 and 17.

For accommodation there are many possibilities, because of a good network of local public transport (GVB), you can even try to find hotels further from the centre, like east, south east, (new)west and north (Metro 52 North south line walk about 15 minutes).

There are relatively cheap hotels not far from the Vondelpark, if you don’t mind the small room and not a lot of service. Also more expensive are around, a lot of choices, but book early. In the Vondelpark and in East there are Stay Okay hostel and near Leidseplein hostels. if you don’t mind sharing rooms and or toilet/shower, some have private rooms.

In Amsterdam (new) west and east there are real nice places to eat good and cheap, even though the last years gentrification struck Amsterdam and made the traditionally cheaper areas more expensive. Schiphol has a train station directly under the main hall, trains go direct to Amsterdam Central station, from where you can take a variety on trams, metro and busses. Trams and metro in front of the station, busses behind the station. Als trains go to , Amsterdam to southeast (Duivendrecht) and west (Lelylaan), which could bring you close to cheaper hotels (Bastion, Ibis).

When you enter Amsterdam by train you will find a nice wooden white building in front of the station to find
public transport tickets for the city for more days. See: https://webshop.gvb.nl/en_gb/daycard/

Also you can buy a so called OV ticket, where you put money on to travel also outside of Amsterdam:
https://www.ov-chipkaart.nl/home-1.htm#/ this is the easiest and cheapest way to travel in and outside of Amsterdam, already from Schiphol. Take care to check in and out every time you go in or out a station or the bus or metro.

For touristic venues you can find busses behind central station to for instance ‘De Zaanse Schans’ with the windmills, ‘De Keukenhof’ big flower exposition. There are organized trips, but most are possible to reach by public transport which gives more freedom.
